Ingredients: How to make a Tequila Old Fashioned

The basic recipe for Tequila Old Fashioned is quite simple and is usually prepared in an old fashioned glass or tumbler, a glass commonly used to serve cocktails. It has a cylindrical or slightly conical shape, with a wide base that gives it stability. It often has thick walls, which gives it a solid and sturdy feel in the hand.

  • 2 oz. reposado or añejo Tequila.
  • 1 sugar cube or 1 teaspoon of agave syrup.
  • 2-3 drops of Angostura bitters.
  • A couple of ice cubes.
  • Orange peel (for garnish).

Remember that the key is to balance the flavors and adapt the cocktail according to your personal preferences. You can adjust the amounts of the ingredients to suit your particular taste.

Steps for the preparation of the Tequila Old Fashioned Recipe

  1. Place the sugar cube in the glass: If you are using a sugar cube, place it in the bottom of the old fashioned glass. If you prefer to use granulated sugar instead, add it directly to the glass.
  2. Add the 2-3 drops of Angostura bitters over the sugar: Angostura bitters is a key ingredient in the Old Fashioned cocktail, make sure the Angostura bitters falls directly on the sugar so that it mixes properly.
  3. Add the ice cubes to the glass: After incorporating the sugar and Angostura bitters, add some ice cubes to the glass. The ice cubes will help cool the cocktail and dilute it slightly.
  4. Pour the tequila over the ice and stir gently: Pour (60 ml) of reposado or añejo tequila over the ice cubes. Use a spoon to gently mix the ingredients constantly.
  5. For an aromatic and visually appealing finishing touch, take (a thin strip of orange peel) and place it on the rim of the glass or directly on top of the cocktail.
