Ingredients: How to make a Tequila Old Fashioned

The basic recipe for a Tequila Old Fashioned is simple and is typically served in an old fashioned glass or tumbler. This type of glass is commonly used for cocktails and features a cylindrical or slightly conical shape with a wide base for added stability. Its thick walls provide a solid, sturdy feel, making it a pleasure to hold while enjoying your drink.

  • 2 oz. reposado or añejo Tequila.
  • 1 sugar cube or 1 teaspoon of agave syrup.
  • 2-3 drops of Angostura bitters.
  • A couple of ice cubes.
  • Orange peel (for garnish).

Remember, the key is to balance the flavours and adapt the cocktail to your personal preferences. Feel free to adjust the ingredient quantities to suit your taste.

Steps for the preparation of the Tequila Old Fashioned Recipe

  1. Place the sugar cube in the glass: If using a sugar cube, place it at the bottom of the old fashioned glass. Alternatively, if you prefer granulated sugar or agave syrup, add it directly to the glass.
  2. Add 2–3 drops of Angostura bitters: Angostura bitters are essential to the Old Fashioned. Ensure the bitters fall directly onto the sugar to help it mix properly.
  3. Add the ice cubes to the glass: Once the sugar and bitters are combined, add a few ice cubes. The ice will chill the cocktail and slightly dilute it for a smoother taste.
  4. Pour the tequila over the ice and stir gently: Pour 60ml of reposado or añejo tequila over the ice cubes. Use a spoon to gently stir the ingredients continuously until well mixed.
