As with most Margarita recipes, Tommy’s Tequila Margarita is simple and enjoyable to make. Just shake everything together, serve, and savour. Chill your glass in the freezer or fill it with ice. Add the tequila, agave syrup, and lime juice to a cocktail shaker, then fill it with ice and shake for 10-15 seconds or until the outside of the shaker feels cold. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your chilled glass, then dip it into salt to coat. Wipe away any excess salt with a napkin (nobody wants salt in their cocktail). Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass, fill it with fresh ice, garnish with a lime wheel, and enjoy.

One of the finest ways to enjoy tequila is with a Margarita. Crisp, delicious, and undeniably attractive, Margaritas are ideal for warm afternoons, al fresco gatherings, or whenever you need a little boost of energy.

Among the many variations of the Margarita, Tommy’s Margarita stands out. Instead of using triple sec to sweeten the cocktail, this recipe opts for agave syrup, a natural sweetener derived from the same agave plant as tequila. The result is a light, citrusy, and refreshingly balanced drink with just the right touch of alcohol.

This very Tommy’s Margarita recipe serves as the inspiration behind our Altos Margarita. A true staple in cocktail bars, it’s an iconic reinterpretation of the classic Margarita. With just three simple ingredients—Altos Plata, citrus, and honey—this version is a testament to perfection. The unaged Plata brings a vibrant note of roasted agave, while the citrus adds a tangy twist to the sweet combination. It’s truly a match made in heaven!

Our Altos Tommy’s Margarita Cocktail Variation

Our Altos Ginger Margarita offers a classic twist on the Tommy’s Margarita recipe. This version is just as simple to prepare at home, featuring Altos Plata, lemon juice, ginger syrup, and agave. The subtle spice and sweetness of the ginger blend harmoniously with the zesty citrus and the bold character of 100% blue agave tequila, creating a refreshing and flavourful drink. This cocktail is an excellent choice for adding some warmth during the autumn months or a little spice to brighten up winter evenings.

What´s the Diference Between Tommy´s Margarita and Skinny Margarita?

These two cocktails are quite similar, as neither includes calorie-heavy triple sec. The key difference lies in the ingredients: a Skinny Margarita incorporates fresh orange juice alongside agave syrup, whereas Tommy’s Margarita relies solely on the agave sweetener.

Tommy’s Margarita History

Who is Tommy, and what makes this cocktail so special? Well, Tommy isn’t a person—it’s actually the name of a Mexican restaurant in San Francisco. The cocktail itself was created by Julio Bermejo, a renowned figure in the world of tequila.

By replacing the triple sec traditionally used in Margaritas with agave nectar, Julio crafted a crisp and refreshing drink that has captured the hearts of many. He named the cocktail after his family’s restaurant, which has since become a legendary destination for bartenders around the globe. For Margarita enthusiasts, this is definitely one to add to your bucket list!

The quality of your Margarita depends greatly on the tequila you choose. Be sure to opt for a high-quality bottle made from 100% agave. Altos Tequila Plata is a premium 100% agave tequila, celebrated for its smooth texture and delightful aftertaste. This unaged tequila has won numerous awards and is consistently rated as a top choice for Margaritas by bartenders worldwide.
