I’m baaaaaack with yet another tequila recipe featuring my favorite Altos Plata Tequila! You’re not mad, are you? Please say you’re ok with tequila overload. Just think of it as a way to keep celebrating Cinco de Mayo…? Yes, let’s go with that.
Ok so you guys know how I feel about grapefruit—I don’t love it—but when mixed with the right flavors it is SO refreshing. In this case, the right flavors are fresh strawberries, ginger beer and tequila. Honestly, this ginger paloma couldn’t be simpler—it comes together in 10 minutes and is suuuuper refreshing.
In case you missed my first post, let’s talk about why I love Altos Tequila so much. For one, it’s 100% agave hand-picked just for the consumer. Secondly, they distill in small batches, really focusing on quality over quantity. The third reason, really, is that it’s affordable! I love me a good tequila cocktail, but I refuse to shell out a crazy amount of money for tequila. If you feel the same, Altos Tequila’s got your back and won’t rob your wallet. WIN.
So, what is a Paloma, exactly? Essentially, it’s a cocktail made with tequila and grapefruit soda or fresh grapefruit juice. Check out how to make an Altos Crafted Paloma HERE. For this ginger Paloma recipe, I opted to use fresh grapefruit juice because fresh is better and it takes all of 30 seconds to squeeze juice out of a grapefruit. Minimal effort AND better taste—yes.
To make this cocktail, you’ll start by squeezing fresh grapefruit juice into a large bowl and then adding in the ginger beer and tequila, then you’ll add in the fresh strawberries. I’d wait five minutes or so (allow a little time for the strawberries to soak up the liquid) before muddling the strawberries down. If you own a muddler great—use that—but if you don’t, I recommend using a wooden spoon and/or a fork. ….or at least that’s what I did! I started with a wooden spoon and then used a fork for any other larger strawberries that I couldn’t quite get. The whole “muddling” process might take you all of two minutes.
Once the strawberries are muddled, you can either A) pour liquid into glasses and serve them as so or B) (the way I recommend) you pour the liquid through a strainer first and then drink it! I like the way the drink looks with the fresh fruit in it, but it’s much easier to drink if it’s been strained first.

Recipes (serves 1, but feel free to double or triple the recipe)
Altos Plata Tequila
Cut into pieces 3
Pour grapefruit juice, ginger beer and tequila into a bowl.
Next, add chopped strawberries and allow them to sit in the bowl for at least five minutes.
Next, use a muddler or a wooden spoon to break down the strawberries.
Last, pour the liquid through a fine mesh strainer and then into a glass.
Serve with ice and enjoy!
