We Care Manifesto

Altos’ mission is to craft tequila of the highest quality while caring for the planet and its people. For us, sustainability is not just about reducing waste or reusing materials. It is a way of life that demands meaningful changes in our daily routines. It’s not about perfection, but about a commitment to care and to continuously improve.

Here is what Altos genuinely values:

Our Planet

We care about our land

We promote traditional, sustainable production methods to secure long-term crops by allowing agaves to fully mature, hand-cutting them, and practising crop rotation.

We care about the footprint of our production process

We analyse every stage of the production process to optimise resources, with a particular focus on water, energy, CO2, and waste. Our distillery recycles 99% of its solid waste, and we are investing in research to find innovative uses for agave bagasse, giving it a valuable second life.

We care about eco-design

We are committed to continuously improving the design of our packaging to minimise its environmental impact. Altos’ iconic bottle was redesigned to reduce its glass weight by 20%, leading to a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions.

Our People

We care about our internal and external collaborators

We take pride in being part of the tequila industry, which generates more than 6,000 jobs and pays 3.5 times the minimum wage in Mexico. We collaborate closely with our suppliers to ensure fair wages and good working conditions throughout our entire value chain.

We care about the communities in the Tequila region

We place special focus on supporting marginalised communities in the Tequila region. Since 2017, the Altos Huichol project has positively impacted 65 artisans, increasing their family incomes by 2.5 times and improving water access for the entire community.

We care about our bartender community

The Tahona Society is a programme created to educate bartenders about agave spirits, promote career development, enhance community networking, and encourage life balance and health practices. In 2018, we introduced the industry’s first-ever competition centred on social and sustainable values, along with the Henry Besant Scholarship to support aspiring bartenders at the start of their careers.
