1 part freshly squeezed lime juice
5 parts high-quality ginger beer

Add all the ingredients directly into the Mule mug, rather than mixing them in a cocktail shaker, as we want to preserve the fizz of the ginger beer. Squeeze one or two fresh limes. Crush some ice and add it to the mug. Garnish generously with lime slices.

For all tequila enthusiasts, the Mexican Mule cocktail is a brilliant choice.

This drink brings together fresh lime juice and ginger beer to craft a refreshing and energising beverage, ideal for warm summer days. Add a splash of tequila and finish with a slice of lime, and you’ve got yourself a splendid cocktail.

The original inspiration for this drink is a twist on the Moscow Mule, which traditionally features vodka. The Moscow Mule itself was created in New York City in 1941 by Jack Morgan, the owner of the Cock’n Bull restaurant, alongside two friends.

The name “Mexican Mule” comes from the iconic copper mug in which it is traditionally served. It is believed that copper mugs keep drinks colder for longer as they conduct heat more slowly than glass or plastic.

How to Make this Tequila Mules Recipe

The Mexican Mule is among the simplest tequila cocktails to prepare, and it’s an excellent choice to kick off your evening!

It’s perfect for newcomers to tequila, as it’s light, refreshing, and not overly strong. You can use any type of tequila you prefer, but we suggest using Reposado tequila for a more balanced and smoother flavour.

  1. Add all the ingredients directly into the Mule mug, skipping the cocktail shaker to keep the ginger beer’s carbonation intact.
  2. Squeeze one or two fresh limes.
  3. Crush some ice and add it to the mug.
  4. Garnish generously with lime slices.

Add a distinctive touch to our Mexican Mule Drink with Jalapeños or Mint

One of the best things about the Mexican Mule is the flexibility to personalise it with unique ingredients.

To add a spicy kick to your Mexican Mule, drop in some slices of freshly cut jalapeños. Two slices are usually sufficient, but if you’re feeling adventurous, feel free to add more.

For a fresher twist, try adding mint: crush a few leaves and mix them into your drink. You could even combine jalapeños and mint for a truly distinctive cocktail.
