Altos Huichol: Limited edition
Huichol art is one of the most well-known inside and outside Mexico. It is produced by the Huichol people, who live in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit in Mexico. The unifying trademark of their work is the colorful decorations that use symbols and designs in chaquira (small beads) to represent key aspects of their world vision.
Meet San Andres Cohamiata
Altos has partnered with Huichol communities to offer a special edition of Altos Huichol bottles through e-commerce. The goal is to generate a positive impact on the quality of life of the Huichol Community in San Andres Cohamiata, Jalisco. In collaboration with “Ascalapha,” an organization which has been working to improve the lives of these vulnerable groups, we intend to help artisans achieve a daily minimum wage nine times higher of what they usually make with their work.
With the interest of generating more and better ways to materialize the impact of this project, we have raised 106,838.00 pesos already from Altos charity events around the world (if you had eaten at our Altos Tacos & Wheels at bar events or festivals, you may have already helped) destined to help the Huichol communities in four principal aspects:
- Improving water access for families
- Bringing people closer to the possibility of medical assistance.
- Proper housing
- Solar panel electricity.
So far this project has reached employed 27 artisans who have created about 990 Altos mini bottles, 713 Altos Plata bottles, and given artisans 2.5 times more income per family. In total, Altos is proud to have helped 124 huicholes to date.
